Micro-Engineering Turnouts & Caboose Industries Ground Throws

I should've Googled first, but I just discovered CI ground throws & ME switches don't like each other. I need to repair-in-place an ME switch (over-center spring broke) and I tried to use a CI throw I had on-hand.
I'll either need to get a throw with less, um, "throw" (travel) or figure out a way to retrofit a new spring in an in-place turnout.  Or replace the turnout entirely (which I'd like to avoid).
Any suggestions?

  1. You could introduce a slack mechanism between the throw and the turnout - use a piece of phosphor bronze wire (Tichy sells it in various sizes) and bend a loop in it. Here's an example (in garden scale, using a paper clip): http://www.svrronline.com/images/SW%20paperclip2.jpg.jpg

    1. Oh! I really like that idea Trevor! Thanks for sending the pic. I've decided for now to use the little tension spring Randy fabricated (it replicates on the side of the turnout what the ME spring does underneath the turnout). That should do for now, but it's really good to know there's this effective alternative. Thanks again!

  2. Caboose makes a throw with a spring that might work, or you could use the N scale ground throw. The only real advantage over Trevor's suggestion is that they are more compact. The N scale ground throw is closer to prototype size for HO as well.

    1. Good point - I know Bill Schneider uses CI groundthrows, I just wonder whether he uses the N-scale version. I expect that even the sprung version would have even less throw than the HO version. FWIW, the HO version I was trying was sprung, and its throw was still insufficient for the ME turnout.

  5. With many construction sites finishing building projects left and right what with all the needed business infrastructures after the global financial meltdown, more and more construction site companies rely on construction workers to get the jobs done on time. While this demand in construction workers is a positive result, there are far worse consequences to reckon with. One such consideration is the need to understand and analyze the growing number of construction site accidents happening every year. ‏tourist guide
