This is obviously a photo of New Haven RR K-1-d #466, which was the last mogul used on the Valley Line. But this location doesn't look like anything on the Valley Line that I recognize.
Thanks very much Mike! I got no bites at all on this image when I posted it as the very first "Name That Location" last November (http://blog.thevalleylocal.net/2015/11/wordless-wednesday-92-name-that-location.html) so I really appreciate your weighing in. Now - for extra credit - any idea when the photo was taken? :^) Thanks again for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment - especially one with helpful info I didn't have! Best, Chris
You're welcome, I'm not sure of the exact date but the autos give a ballpark of 1940s I think, thank you for posting it, the photographer would be standing about halfway along heritage street and be looking south easterly
An interesting thing in this photo is the coal falling from the conveyer into the tender. A question is where is the coal coming from and how is the coal getting onto the conveyer, hand shoveled, a machine or?
Here's another shot from a slightly different angle (http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=8628021). I'm going to guess the coal was being unloaded from a hopper placed on the right most track...
Wow - what a cool photo Mike! I've never seen that one before - thanks for sharing it. You certainly know Holyoke. Thanks again for helping solve the mystery.

ReplyDeleteOk - so the shadows (along with your compass orientation) make this likely a late-afternoon photo.
