The only thing that's bothering me now is the fact that my locals get pretty long. e.g. the Valley Local is regularly about 20 cars long - that's a lot for a little 2-6-0 to pull, but not far off the prototype, which regularly hauled 15-30 car trains. That and some of the industries get "overserved" with cars. It's not unprototypical to have an extra car delivery occasionally that will require you to store it elsewhere until it's needed, but it's happening more often than "occasionally" on my railroad. So I know some tweaking of the spreadsheet is necessary. I may have to try and bug Mike Rose about it if I can't figure it out myself - and for now will likely just "cycle" the sheet through a bunch of "virtual" operating sessions to see how things evolve. I'll definitely share what I learn - but I think this system has a lot of promise. The only "me" intervention required is in car choice - and choosing the right car per car handling rules is extremely difficult to program. Best to just do it yourself, based on your knowledge of the rules. But the "traffic" - car requests, etc. - are all done NOT by you. I find this to be much more realistic - I never know what business is coming my way until I get the printout! :^)Chris Adamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18052818057825432279noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5376057412116187041.post-70855940202954167212014-08-11T07:19:02.619-07:002014-08-11T07:19:02.619-07:00What a great post, Chris. I'm drawing my waybills from the stack manually to set up operating sessions and that's working well for me, but I may have to investigate using a spreadsheet for generating traffic as well. This has given me a lot to think about.
Cheers!
- Trevor
---
Trevor Marshall
Port Rowan in 1:64
http://themodelrailwayshow.com/cn1950sTrevorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09860331796911162859noreply@blogger.com
